It's Double Dhamaka for me: Lakshmi Rai - news Sify
Lakshmi Rai is jumping through the hoops with happiness. Her phone has not stopped ringing with all top stars calling her up to congratulate, as her new release Kanchana has hits the bull’s eye. And the double whammy is that it is a hit in both Telugu and Tamil. Lakshmi is the numero uno actress in Malayalam but she does not believe to tom-tom her achievements from roof-tops. Slow and steady wins the race - seems to be her mantra. Speaking exclusively to Sridevi Sreedhar from London where she is on a holiday, Lakshmi opens up So you are over the moon, after the success of Kanchana? (Smiles) Hmmmm... I'm very happy. Kanchana was a special film for me and a lot of people connected with it. It is the simplicity and humour that worked in favour and it's Double Dhamaka for me. I frankly feel that I deserved a solo hit in Tamil, after being here for such a long time. I saw the film in Telugu before I took off to London and was surprised to see the audience reaction in theatres. From the beginning we knew that it would work with B and C stations, but multiplex audiences lapping it up was a surprise. Even before the release, you were rather confident that Kanchana would do well Sometimes it's your gut feeling. And so far, I've not gone wrong with my previous films. Midway through the film you can tell where it's headed. I was confident of this one. A lot of my friends advised me not to sign this film, as it will affect my market. But I was confident about the script. But Anushka was supposed to be the heroine in Kanchana? Yes, that's true. Lawrence was writing the script during the filming of Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam and he narrated the one-line story to me. He also told me that Anushka is doing the heroine role but after an year, he called me one day and asked me if my dates are free. Luckily, I had dates to spare and as I knew the script, I immediately agreed. Rest is history. How was it working with Lawrence? Lawrence Master is one of the most hard working, good human being that I have met in the industry. It is his conviction and confidence that has paid off. But they say you are having an affair with him You must be joking (Laughs). He is a good friend, matured, God-fearing and sensible. My chemistry with him on-screen is terrific and that maybe the reason why people talk like that. Will you be doing the Hindi version of Kanchana? If all goes well, who knows? I don't want to say anything right now, but I heard that Salman Khan loved the film and he is keen to cast me. Your future projects? In Mankatha, I have a fantastic role, a sort of dare devil character. In Malayalam, I am doing three big projects including Priyadarshan's fim. In Telugu, I have completed a film with Balakrishna. What kind of cinema are you now looking for? Anything that catches my fancy; whether it is comedy, a ultra glamorous role, an action flick or realistic cinema. It could be anything. I am pretty enjoying dabbling in different genres. I am always positive and I love the way my career is going. I hope it sustains. I'll be sensuous and sexy - Lakshmi rai in another one of her interview from her early part of career.
Source - Galatta She is just one film old. But her performance as the glamour girl in Karkka Kasadara has got her lot of attention. Lakshmi Rai speaks about her career in a brief interview. How did you enter films? When I was eight years old I started appearing in ad films shot in Belgaum. From 2002 to 2004 I was the Miss Belgaum. Udhayakumar sir was looking out for a fresh face for his film Karkka Kasadara. My portfolio reached him through one of the model coordinators. He asked me to come to Chennai. After a formal screen test I got selected. Your experiences with Udhayakumar. First of all, I was thrilled to work with a director who discovered great actresses like Soundarya. The entire crew and cast are all new. Yet the film does not show it at all. The credit goes to the director. I am grateful to him for having the confidence that I will be able to act. Vikranth (cousin of Vijay) was of great help. He used to tell me the meanings of the dialogues. We hear that you are doing a Telugu film? Yeah, I am doing a film titled Kanchanamala Cable TV with Srikanth. When I got this offer, I was quite apprehensive since everyone told me that Andhra filmdom is full of heroes with big egos. Srikanth, my hero in is such a down-to-earth person and has no airs about him. I hope my Telugu film too becomes a hit. Tell us about your family background. Ours is very close knit family. We are three sisters. I am the youngest and hence the most pampered girl. Whenever we are at home we have our share of fights and fun. I am Lush to my sisters while my mother calls me Lucky. My father had expected the last kid to be a boy and so he calls me Krishna Do you feel that young girls are safe in filmdom? I feel that young girls can make it films. Some may be lucky to get the right break. First and foremost, the parents must be supportive of the daughter’s entry into films. They must be the backbone to their daughter’s career. Next is the right kind of person who should give you the right break. If all this happens then filmdom is a nice place. Do you think glamour is your strong point? Exactly! Today’s youth who come to films want to see glamourous heroines. I want to catch their attention and win their hearts. I will be sensuous and sexy but not vulgar on screen. Once you have come to films then you should not draw any barriers. Are you related to Aishwarya Rai? (Laughs) Somebody has circulated this rumour. Both of us hail from Belgaum and we are from the Rai family. Now we are in the same profession. Apart from this, there is no other connection. What is your bedroom line? “Kid asleep. Do not disturb!” This is one of the first Lakshmi Rai's interview from cinesouth. Simple, humble and mature
Lakshimi Rai, looks like the shape of the number One, and looks as lean, and at the same time attractive. She had entered the Kodambakkm arena through the film 'Karka Kasadara'. Her height is the specialty for this angel from Belguam. Our heart became freezeed when we hear her talking like a cool, chilling breeze of Ooty. We wanted to know about the next step of this beautiful peacock. So we met her, at the hotel Vijay Park. She talked to us along with her sister, which happens to be an added bonus for us. Even before we started asking her anything, she asked, 'Have you seen 'Karka Kasadara', how was the film?' We just nodded our head and started asking her questions! Were you mad about Cinema, even in your younger days? Nothing like that, I started showing my head in ad films when I was studying in 8th standard. I have quenched my artistic thirst, by participating in dance classes, stage programs on daily basis. Then in the years, 2003 and 2004, I was selected as Miss Belguam. Then came the chance to act in films. Now I am giving you interview as an actress. Did you have camera fear while acting in the film 'Karka Kasadara'? Definitely not, because, I have already acted in a Kannada film before, so I had acted in the film 'Karka Kasadara' without any fear whatsoever. How did you get the chance to act in films? I used to take photos of myself often because I was doing modeling. My photo album had come a round in Kodambakkam. Udhayakumar sir happened to see it, in the next minute; I was signed as the heroine in his film. Now I am acting as the heroine in a Telugu film with Srikanth. Even then, I do have an eye on Tamil film field. You were acting in the film 'Kurukkezhuthu', what happened to that film? The director of that film told me a story before I started to act in that film. But, when the shooting started, the story was entirely different. So I had refused to act in that film. What about this 'angel's family? Ayyo, sir, don't praise me too much. Her face had turned into blossoming flower in shyness. My family is a Rai family. Rai, means Aishwara Rai? Hello sir, just hear me out without teasing me. There is no connection between that Rai and us. My father is a businessman, mother is a housewife, two elder sisters Reshma and Ashwini. I am the last one. We used to fight with each other often, but we would turn into peace loving doves in the next moment. I was born in Bangalore, and grown up in Belgaum. But I started to love Chennai now. I even started to learn Tamil a little (The way she said this is 'Tamiinglish' was just beautiful). Oh, I have forgotten to tell you one more thing. I have completed a six-month course in acting in Mumbai, those experiences is helping now. Are you not acting very glamourously? Is it so? But I don't think so; I think I had acted in a manner that was necessary for the scene. I am going to say the same thing, like all other actresses say. "I may act glamorously but not in a obscene way" I do want to search for good character and act in them. What is the secret of your beauty? My Laughter. Does your household members support you to be an actress? My parents are afraid because of the love they have for me, when I have to go to outdoor shooting, leaving them here. However, they never tried to stop me from doing things I wanted to do. Do you think it is advisable for women to come into the cine field to act in films in the prevailing situation of the film field? Why not? But there are many reasons for this fear among women, to start with, their parental permission. Even if they allow them in the beginning, they may fear, if that support would continue till the end. But if you can team with the good people in Cinema, there is no other filed that is better than Cine field. What is your next plan of action? Only now my film is released. Here after I would carefully select my film based on good story, director and good banner. Her words revealed the level of her maturity. |
